darkness-visible: Charikar. Parwan Province : November 2001 Considered the most skilful birdman in the region, Agha Reza on his roof playing Kaftar Bazi with his pigeons. Kaftar Bazi is a competitive sport in which neighbours pit their flocks against each other. The flocks are released and fly over the neighbourhood, deliberately crossing paths to create confusion. When the owners signal them home, the hope is that some of their opponents birds end up in their flock. The loser must then pay to have the birds returned.
